"All" in a Day's Work
Otay. I really don't want to run this game into the ground, but it is kinda fun. So, as long as people are still playing, I'll keep trying to come up with topics. Today we are looking for songs that contain a specific word. That word is:
"ALL"
The mystery song is still in play and for the person who guesses it I will use my power and influence to make you the honorary mayor of Hylton, Texas for about 12 minutes on Monday afternoon if you promise not to let the power go to your head.
Now, pursuant to our conversation on directness versus passivity, I would be interested to hear what you may think are examples of how Christ was either passive or direct. Sometimes it may be hard to tell. For example, choosing to merely write in the dirt may have seemed passive, but what did he write? It may have been extremely direct. Anyway, I just thought that might be interesting.
Now, one more thing. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pray for Mark Riggs. Doctors discovered a mass inside him this weekend roughly the ''size of a soup can.'' His daughter, Katie, sings on my praise team and is one of my favorite people on earth- a blessing to many. Remember this whole family, please.

I think Jesus was active. He brought up the trouble spots with the woman at the well, the rich young ruler and even Peter when he was declaring his devotion learned that he would soon deny his Lord and Savior. If I could learn not to ignore the plank sticking out of someone's eye, my relationships would be better, although, I will say I have gotten better at it.
One last tune
All by Myself- Eric Carmen
Against All Odds -- Phil Collins
All of My Life -- Phil Collins
That's All -- Genesis

Sorry for the dual posting, where is the little garbage can to delete one of them?
"Above All Else"
"Jesus, Name Above All Names"
"Find Us Faithful"--Steve Green
("...oh may ALL who come behind us find us faithful...")
"For the Sake of the Call"--Steven Curtis Chapman ("...we will abandon it ALL for the sake of the call...")

All The Small Things --- Blink 182
Jesus (direct): Ditto "djg" for those three examples. Also, pretty direct with the moneychangers in the temple.
Jesus (passive): For arguments sake, I'll suggest most parables. Instead of telling listeners in exact, black/white terms, He chose a passive method that required listener to think through and find the answer on their own.

Interesting observation C. I, too, thought about parables as a possible example of passive behavior, but I wonder if an instructional tool is actually passive or just a method to easier or more effectively apply concepts to your audience.
All God's critters got a place in the choir. Some sing low, some sing higher. Some sing out loud on the telephone wire. And some just clap their hands, or paws or anything they got now.
(hehe, I love that song!)
First off, I thought of the parables as passive as well, but when you take into consideration the culture I think I'm going to have to disagree on that one. The culture of Jesus was very different from what we live in today. Everything was about symbolism and pictures. I think he was being very direct for the people he was talking to.
Peace,
Kim
"All I Need", by Monk & Neagle
Val, you mean so much to me! Thank you for your continued prayers. I have been posting updates on my blog, and will continue to do so when we know something. Also, the song "My Only Hope Is You" that we sang on Sunday morning is ringing true in our lives as the Lord is providing peace and comfort through this clouded time.. "All that I need is you Jesus, all that I need is You. From early in the morning, 'til late at night, all that I need is you."
"It's a Small World After ALL"
"Just the good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm. Beats all you ever saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born..." Waylon Jennings ~ The Dukes of Hazzard Theme Song
"...take my license, ALL that jive, I can't drive 55." -Sammy Hagar, I Can't Drive 55
Seems we might be suggesting different levels of directness before crossing line to passivity. There wasn't any beating around the bush or symbolism with the rich, young ruler or woman at the well, but same kind of direct approach not used with parables. Of course, these instances deal with "truths". Maybe the gray areas occur when dealing more with "opinions".
